When I took geology during my freshman year, I had a professor that loved to use anecdotes and slide shows in his teaching.. believe me, it was one of the most entertaining and educational classes I ever took. One of the anecdotes used was the story from the only survivor of a tsunami that hit a small coastal town in Japan in the mid 1800's. When the professor read about the "Sea receding more than 100 meters and fish flopping about gasping for air " everyone in the lecture hall turned around to look at me. The professor then looked at me and said "Don't even think about"
As for going out in the calm of a hurricane.. it is incredibly dangerous and stupid..... and I would probably be one of the idiots that would do it.
