Hello!

I have a particular shell-problem that I am dealing with and was extremely
excited to hear that this list server existed! I am trying to remove the
periostracum from some Midwestern freshwater mussels. Naturally, I am
dealing with only those types that are plentiful -- not endangered. In fact,
they were given to me by folks from the Indiana Department of Natural
Resources.

We are trying to make these shells weathered-looking for a display on shell
middens in the Midwest. I have tried acids and have moved into air
abraisive units, which is very time consuming. If anyone out there has any
thoughts on the subject, please let me know!

Thanks!!!
