It was never printed, but there is an example of John Marwick's dry
reaction to a bit of dishonesty on Harold J Finlay's part.
It was told to me by my good friend (and in 79-80 my paleontology
professor) J D Campbell knew Marwick.
Finlay, apart from being an irascible type, was also not above the
odd lightfingeredness. There was a certain volutid missing from
Marwick's collection. One day Marwick was looking through FINLAY's
collection for fossil volutids to describe, and found a certain
specimen he was certain he had seen before in another setting. This
specimen he made the holotype of Alcithoe familiaris Marwick 1926...
