It was pointed out that use of the term Palestine can have political overtones. I meant it as a geographic term to refer to the general region encompassing the present-day Israel and nearby regions such as Sinai, western Jordan, southwestern Syria, and southern Lebanon and did not intend any reference to political entities or views. Fossiliferous limestone occurs through much of this region, hence a good fossil mollusk fauna and the historically and archaeologically famous caves.
