Dear friends

According to Filmer (2001), C. argillaceus Perry, 1811 is a nomen dubium.
The representation of the holotype is unclear, and the description
inadequate. It could represent a specimen of Conus monile Hwass, 1792. C.
splendidulus Sowerby, 1833, is valid, hence C. argillaceus is NOT a
synonym. Confusion with another valid species from the same area, Conus
ardisiaceus Kiener, 1845 (neotype from Oman), may occur given the
similarities between "argillaceus" and "ardisiaceus".
Warmest regards
