Maybe the guy who carved the shell thought it was too difficult to make a Murex pecten…..

Shell oil used to have a division not too far from me here in west Houston
called the "Pectin Companies", but their logo was a Thatcheria mirabilis.
There signage was beautiful with that shell carved into black granite, highlighted in gold.
It would have been a good opportunity for them to use a Murex pectin as a logo.
