John, you want to use a Jeweler's portable black light such as the ones
found at the following site http://www.ambericawest.com/blacklight5.html

I have used similar portable units with great success.

They are also useful for picking up the original patterns in fossil shells.

I need to find source(s) for a UV light which will help me detect rare and
uncommon shells which have been altered or doctored.  Can anyone make
recommendations as to what type, and where they can be found?
