My USGS Professional Papers are in a box somewhere, but I'd bet this
name is a McNeil species described from the Shinzato Formation
(Pliocene) of Okinawa... most likely this is a synonym of C.
tibiaeformis.
If this is the specimen on C&S Shell Cabinet Auction, it's a C.
tibiaeformis. There are only 2 species living: C.tibiaeformis and
C.dalli. There are fossil species scattered around, including New
Zealand.
The most commonly used synonym of the genus is Teramachia.
Apparently the animal is a good volutid, though the shell has definite
ptychatractine turbinellid characters.
