thanks for the responses to my query ....for anybody who finds themselves in the area, and likes big Busycon- a souvenir shop along Route 13 near Cape Charles VA (R and T Nautical Gifts) was selling very large Busycon carica , many in decent shape (including at least one or two that were approaching the "Old" WRS of 281mm); and the owner's husband was able to supply locality data (he collected them). Every now and then one of those kinds of places turns out to be a good place to shell.
Perhaps some of you have had good luck shelling that way?
