Hi. I have a fake slit shell that was a gift to me from a friend
who bought shells - at very modest prices - in the Philippines.
He gave me a number of shells all of which were as obviously
"real" as the slit was fake. How did I know ? For one thing it
was very light in weight. I compared it with another slit shell
I have and it just didn't feel right. Another tell-tales was found by
looking at the aperture.
There was no nacreous (?) border. Then, I looked at the bottom of
the shell. It was painted a sickly green.
The paradox is, I love that fake slit shell and it's as much a
part of my collection as anything else.
