Two members of the Jacksonville Shell Club have striking specimens of a
questionably identified shell trawled from deep water off northern Honshu,
Japan. It has been postulated that these two specimens (of three known
to this submitter) are a deep water form of Nucella frecineti (Deshayes,
1841).

Images of one of the three (from a direct scan of the shell on a flat-bed
scanner) are available at:

http://home.sprynet.com/sprynet.wfrank/western.htm

for viewing.

Any suggestions, comments, or identifications would be appreciated and
should be sent to the two individuals cited on that page.
