Dear CONCH-Lers,
I am working on an Atrina from the northern Gulf of Mexico that has
been trawled from 90 - 120 fathoms and attains a shell length of approximately
60 centimeters (2 feet). I need to see some comparative material of a couple
of similar species: Atrina maura (Sowerby, 1835) and Atrina oldroydi (Dall,
1901), both from the Eastern Pacific. Abbott in American Seashells 2nd
edition, states that A. oldroydi may be a synonym of A. maura, but his
illustration of A. maura is actually the illustration Dall used in his
description of A. oldroydi. I would appreciate any comments, and even more
so the loan or opportunity to purchase specimens of these two "species".
Thanks in advance.
