To stay awake on the long drive to and from our study sites in southern California in the mid-1980s, we (more Barry Roth than David Lindberg) would sometimes create limericks about passing towns. Returning from a trip on which we had discussed that the limpet radula can get caught on the intestinal diverticula and can cause gangrene (an unconfirmed story), and passing the town of Chualar, I created the following:

There once were three sisters from Chualar
Of the three, one was the crueler
She died of gangrene
Eating limpet cuisine
And now her two sisters a duo are.
