I regret having to tell you all that we have lost another link with our
history. A week ago today, in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, the former
co-proprietor of Abbey Specimen Shells and my predecessor as Editor of
American Conchologist, Charles Glass, better known to most of us as
Charlie, died of a sudden heart attack.

Even though he had abandoned shells and run off to Mexico to rejoin his
first love, the cultivation of cactus and succulents, Charlie's passing
leaves a big hole in my life, in the lives of all of us who enjoyed his
wit, his humor, his knowledge of shells, and his passion for the things of
the natural world.

Bob Foster, the other half of "Foster and Glass," tells me Charlie was
feeling fine and healthy up to the end, and that the heart attack which
felled him was completely unexpected. For this we are thankful.

We'll miss you, Charlie,

Lynn Scheu
