I notice a lot of messages on Conch-L that fit the description below.
It is true not only of Outlook Express, but also Netscape Communicator.
If you have your program set to HTML you need to change it to plain
text.  A listserve is not able to read HTML, regardless of what program
the recipients are using.

... 99% chance someone is using Outlook
Express by MS.  That's fine for those who have HTML type email
readers  (the symbols do not show). But for Juno and other text
email clients,  it's highly distracting.
 
To fix the problem, Outlook Express users,  do this:
 
In the main menu area of Outlook Express, click Tools, Options, Send
and then click the circle beside Plain Text. Save and exit and your
friends will once again like you.
