Pour alcohol into the aperature of the live shells and then stuff with
cotton
and put in a zip lock bag.

I read somewhere that vegetables feel pain when they are cut but is this a
painless method of putting a poor shell to death?
Having said that I have boiled tritons and ate crabs and lobsters that I
have caught :-((.
