TREASURE OF RUSSIAN SHELLS, VOL. 4. Trochiformes (Trochidae,
Calliostomatidae, Liotiidae, Turbinidae, Tricoliidae). BY R. EGOROV, 2000.

Species of the order Trochiformes are distributed in all waters of both hemispheres. Presently, 5 families with 18 genera contained 63 species and subspecies are known for the seas of Russia and adjacent waters. Five species are described as new. A new subfamily, Oligomeriinae subfam.nov. is isolated in the family Trochidae. The highest species diversity was recorded in the Far Eastern Region (in the Bering, Okhotsk and Japan Seas). Were found some
elements of subtropical fauna in the Japan Sea: Benthastelena c. consors, Umbonium costatus, U. thomasi, Tegula lischkei, T. rustica. All trochids of the Black Sea are not endemical and widely distributed in the Meditteranean Sea, except, probably, Steromphala crimeana and Tricolia milaschewitchi, described from the northern part of the Black Sea and not recorded in the Meditteranean yet.

As a tresult of studying rich collections stored in the Zoological Museum of Moscow State University (Moscow) and in the Zoological Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences (St.-Petersburg) and many samples stored in the private collection (a total more than 3500 specimens), and based on analysis of literature, author supplemented data on ecology and distribution of trochids mollusks, and specified diagnoses of subfamilies, genera and some rare and little-known species. An analysis of original descriptions and examination of
type material allowed to revise the taxonomic position of some species and their synonymy. Contained 84 pages.
