Reference the recent dialog concerning the Sowerby family, I found the
following information on the internet that indicates promising work on the
subject may be forthcoming:
(from the web pages of the Mollusca section of the National Museums &
Galleries of Wales

Historical Research
Alison Trew is working on a list of New Molluscan Names Introduced by the
Sowerby Family. The Sowerby family were prolific authors and illustrators.
The patriarch was James Sowerby (1757-1822) and his son, grandson and great
grandson were George Brettingham Sowerby 1st (1788-1854), George
Brettingham Sowerby 2nd (1812-1884) and George Brettingham Sowerby 3rd
(1843-1884). Between them and a few cousins they introduced hundreds,
perhaps over 5,000 new names into the molluscan literature. This on-going
work is an attempt to list all these names with correct publication dates,
full original references and type localities.
There is also in existence a data base listing all the 2482 new molluscan
names of generic, specific and sub-specific rank introduced by Paul Pallary
(1869-1942). Information from this data-base is available on request and
will hopefully at some later date be published. Contact Alison.Trew

Scott Jordan
