Correct. They do not usually develop such a
overthickened and inflated shell, but such
specimens are not rare.
Occurs in the North Island, northern parts of the
South Island and the Chatham Islands, 800-odd km
off Christchurch. Sandy substrate intertidally
and in shallow water.
