It would appear that Neptunea suffers the same problem as Busycon;
there are at least two well-defined sinistral species; sinistral
specimens of other species are rare-to-common and many species as
currently defined do not appear to hold water (ie there are far more
names in use than there are good species).

Actually Buccinidae in general are a mess; Busycon, Volema, Buccinum
& Neptunea are only the more spectacular ones.

Molecular work CAN give useful results, but the trick is to use the
right sequences; for instance, if the one you pick contains the
chirality gene, they you can guarantee bad results which will give
the idea that all sinistral specimens (of whatever species or genus)
are genetically distinct from all dextral specimens and therefore
deserve a different specific name (selffulfilling and erroneous).
