Keith I can only attest to what the Sand company told the news paper.
It was a full page spread in a section. Perhaps it was destined to another
resort island that had the capitol, knowledge and wanted sand did it.

I have lived on a calcareous beach - flat flakes that stick like glue.

In the 60's when I walked on the beach it was Quartz but perhaps shipping
it from Oakland was getting expensive. The number of old 'tramp' steamers
left over from WW II and Korea were likely cheap compared to todays
cargo vessels.

And like the new resorts, golf courses had the money and push.

Thanks for the update.
