Hello Burton, The second shell was named Trochus crassus (Pulteney, 1799)
but this is now a synonym for Monodonta lineata (da Costa, 1778). According
to European Seashells Vol. 1, it is found from Great Britain to Portugal and
is an exclusively Atlantic species found intertidally on rocky shores. Size
to 25 mm. Page 86. Bert Bartleson PNWSC

Subject: [CONCH-L] ID Assistance; Trocho_cochlea, Crepidula_spp

Please excuse my earlier post of a single shell, today.

I have two shells from the Archerd Shell Collection, of which the ID
accuracy may be questionable. I don't find anything on the brown,
striped Crepidula_spp.; nor do I, for the Trocho_cochlea_crassa
(Pult, ___) which is from Cascais Bay, Lisbon, Portugal. The shells
may be viewed at:

I would be grateful for any assistance.

-Burton Vaughan
