I just found an interesting tidbit at

Darwin was often helped by his sons in his microscopical work, and
especially by his third son Francis. The illustrations for his published
work were also carried out by Francis, and for his Cirripede [barnacle]
volumes by George Brettingham Sowerby, a professional illustrator.
