One of the things I found last year while in the USVI was that Strombus gigas
was found only in about 15ft+ of water. It used to be found in 2ft+ but
because it is so overfished the numbers have diminshed so that it now is only
found in deeper water. But judging from all the fresh shells sitting on the
beach I would guess that there are still quite a few still wandering around.
