To add to the rare whelk discussion:

I have a 'right handed left handed whelk' so to speak.  I purchased
it from a reputable dealer.  I showed it to a top  highly respected expert
in scientific shell identification and the identification was confirmed.

Not only is it dextral, but also it is large and albinistic (that may b e
due to its large size.). I show it paired with a similarly sized and
traditionally colored sinistral whelk.
