Dear shellers,

did anybody really read the draft? I am a bit confused, because I cannot find a passage in the draft, where it is forbidden to collect anything. I asked several people but all of them told me, they have heard.... I do not want to hear something - I would be very happy if somebody can tell me the passage in the draft where it is forbidden to collect, exchange or sell shells or anything else. As far as I understand the draft it is forbidden to bring a cultural good like a painting or a statue or other cultural goods for at least more than 50.000 Euro abroad without permission. Here also important scientific collections are also mentioned. Well, if a complete museum collection should be brought abroad we should consider to keep it at the original place. I have no problem with this. I do not think that bikes, soldier patches, stamps or CQ radio cards will become important scientific collections and although there are some paratypes in my own shell collection I do not think it would be an important scientific collection. So please tell me, why I should sign the petition? I cannot see a problem for the individual collector, but really would be glad for any hint.

Manfred Herrmann
President of Club Conchylia, Germany

Betreff: Re: [CONCH-L] Petition: International appeal to all collectors of natural and cultural objects – please sign the petition "For preserving the right to privately collect"!

We need a wider group than this one for something like this.
Hope it happens. I hate others over there making rules and laws that
get forced
upon us without due process. If their local peoples go for it that is
one thing.

Killing the enjoyment of most everyone, not only shellers. Consider
coin, stamp, rock, leaf......
Soldier patches, CQ radio cards, bicycles and everything...
