One other nice thing about AltaVista is that you can customize your search
page. All the way on the bottom of the main page there is a "set your
preferences" button. If you press that you will get a screen that allows you
to customize not only various search criteria, but also the way the page looks
when you first open it. I prefer "text only view" to avoid all the
advertisement they flash across the screen. This setting affects only the way
the AltaVista screen looks, but you still get all the graphics when you go to
another site from there.
