Dear all, I need some help on the id of some shells.
While I was down in Florida during the Thanksgiving weekend,
I managed to catch up on some field collecting. I brought up six
Dove shells, and I have looked through all my references, but no luck.
Here is the description: First, these are definitely in the genus
Anachis.
They measure 12mm. It is fairly high spired, resembling Anachis avara in
some ways, including the vertical ribs, but these are stronger and less
numerous than avara's. The color and pattern is breathtaking; the base
color is transparent white, with wavy, vertical bands of brown on the
spire. Near the aperture and canal, the pattern gets much finer, and
takes on a net-like appearance. The operculum is sickle shaped, like a
Strombus. When I had them in a container of water alive, I made note that
the periostracum was brownish-green. The columella is tinged faint
violet, and both the columella and the inner lip have about 7 tiny
denticles. The exterior of the shell has numerous, fine spiral lines,
which become more intense near the base. And, as a last note, the entire
shell is highly glossy. Can anyone help?

Thanks,
James
