Did anyone catch the new television program Survivor on CBS Wednesday?
Sixteen contestants on an uninhabited tropical island vying for a million
dollar prize? Trashy, yet I'm already addicted.

I know I'd be in a bad way if I was there. I'd be voted off the island pronto
for spending all my time looking for shells.

One of the contestants used dead rat to bait a fish trap. Wouldn't snails
make better bait? Surely there must be some easily-gathered nerites or
something. Then I got to wondering about chiton chowder and what sorts of
mollusks these folks could find to eat.

Some of you conch-lers, especially those who specialize in Pacific species,
would have a definite advantage if you were among these network castaways.
You'd know what to eat, what not to eat and what to leave alone (cones!).

I have to ask the group, what would you eat on an island off Borneo? What
advice would you give these folks?
