Regarding the Clench paraffin/xylene mixture, when I visited the Museum at
the Ohio State Museum, Dr. Stansberry was still using this method to
preserve the periostracum on freshwater molluscs.  At the Carnegie Museum,
we have some specimens treated with glycerine and many untreated.
Different folks use different approaches.
