Dear Folks,

I have also checked sites for snails after bushfires - we get plenty of
them in Australia. It is a very good way of doing a survey of land snails
(snails over a few mm in size anyway). Snail populations decline
dramatically in areas where bush fires are more frequent - say every five
years or so (usually near urban areas). I was also surprised at the numbers
of snails found.

Cheers,

Robert
