1937 - Shellfish of New Zealand: An Illustrated Handbook, 1st Ed
(Dunno publisher or other details)

1946 - Shellfish of New Zealand: An Illustrated Handbook, 2nd Ed
(Dunno publisher or other details)

1958 (not 1957) - Shellfish of New Zealand: An Illustrated Handbook,
3rd Ed Enlarged, Whitcombe & Tombs Pub, 202 pp, 36 pl, SB(L) softcover

1961 - Shells of New Zealand: An Illustrated Handbook, 4th Ed,
Whitcombe & Tombs Pub, 203 pp, 36 pl, SB(L)

1967 - reprint of 4th ed, softcover (greenish-silver)

1976 - Shells of New Zealand 5th Ed (new title for revised edition),
Whitcoulls Ltd, 154 pp, 45 pl, DJ HB(M)********hardcover, turquoise
dustjacket w/Argonauta, Placostylus

The above is not a very useful book, with poor small illustrations, mainly b&w.

1979 - New Zealand Mollusca: Marine Land & Freshwater Shells, Collins
Pub, 500 pp, 82 pl, 120 fig, 2 map, DJ HB(L) red cover, gray
jacket**********this is an entirely different book! The NZ equivalent
of Abbott 1974.

Powell 1979 is very incomprehensive, and distribution data is very
poor. Powell knew very little about the southern half of the
counrtry. The plates are scattered in bundles throughout the text,
which is extremely user-unfriendly. I had m my working copy rebound,
with all plates condensed near back of book. I also compiled 22 extra
plates of the figures scattered on the textpages, and had these bound
in after the factory plates.

Anyone wanting my list of additional spp and updates for the last
book (Word table format), please ask & I'll send it as an attachment.
