I´m surprised to read that Alfonso did not find Hidalgo´s work at the Natural Sciences Museum as the works are there (collections and publications). It is needed to say that most of the works on molluscs (fossil, Quaternary and modern)come through the works of the Geological Map Commission during XIX century, and they have been published as parts of the Bulletin of the Geological Commission, geological section of the Royal Natural History Society Bulletin and other scientific magazines or short works from some Museums. They are highly valuable pieces of work and it is not likely to be found in second-hand shops (unhappily not in modern libraries either). However, the Natural Sciences Museum in Madrid is carrying out a work on the iberic fauna referencing all old and modern works. They also published a volume on the species preserved in the Museum collections, the Spanish ones but also the American and the ones from the Phillipines. The Fauna Ibérica volume on molluscs is not published yet. And yes, there is still a lady curator of molluscs collections who takes care of anything concerning terrestrial molluscs: her name is Dr. María Teresa Aparicio (Maite Aparicio). The email address is [log in to unmask] (please check in the Museum webpage).

I´m not much aware of Hidalgo´s works but I can try to find further information on them if anyone needs it.

Best wishes,
Ana.
