Dear conchlers,

I have just subscribed to the Conch-L list and would like to introduce
myself. I am 32 years old and from Germany, so please be patient with my
English.
I've been collecting since my early childhood. My mother is just the same.
When my husband – at that time still my boy-friend – and I spent our first
weekend together with my parents at the seaside in Belgium a few years ago,
my father took him aside and explained him the secret of his own happy
marriage: „Whenever you go for a walk by the sea with Mona, make sure you
have a plastic bag with you – she’ll love you for it. I do the same thing
for her mother...“
I did however not realize that there are so many other people who are
interested in shelling until we went to Sanibel island last year – the
holiday of my life! Now I hope that I can exchange some experience with
other conchlers via Conch-L, and I am very happy that I finally found out
about your existence. On the other hand, I almost feel a little stupid that
the idea of browsing the internet for shell clubs etc. occurred to me so
late! However, I am not from the seaside, so maybe this is a bit of an excuse.
I have just returned from a journey to Queensland, Australia – also a good
place to look for shells. However, despite seeing all these spectacular
shells there, I still appreciate also the smaller freshwater shells that can
be found here in Germany.
If anyone of you plans to go to the European seaside, just let me know - I
can recommend a few good shelling places in Belgium, Cornwall/GB, Ireland,
Corse, and Greece.
Even though I appreciate practically every shell, I have a special love for
cones and volutes.
Best regards to all of you, Mona
