* relax the poor creature with the method suited to its taxon: drowning
in boiled (deoxygenated) water for land snails, poder of cloves in the
water for Unionids, etc. (I've never done marine species). Then slip a
bit of buffered formalin into the solution when the body is fully
relaxed, and dissect or preserve as you choose...
