According to the introduction of his work, Dodge completed only one third of
the Linnaean Turbo species before failing eyesight forced him to abandon his
project.

Hanley (1855, The Shells of Linnaeus, p. 335) stated that the specimen of T.
margaritaceus in the Linnaean collection matched Chemnitz figure 1762
(Conch. Cab. V). This figure to me seems a good match for non-scaly
specimens of Turbo argyrostomus. Pilsbry (1888, Manual of Conchology)
considered T. margaritaceus to be a variety of T. argyrostomus. Linnaeus
himself (1758, p. 764) said of T. margaritaceus, "Testa Similis T.
Argyrostomo, sed albido-virens maculis fuscis, nec purpurascens."
