Hi Ellen,

It sounds like you are having a wonderful time!  Flagstaff is one of my
favorite places.  We lived there in the 60's when we both worked for Lowell
Observatory there.  Have you been up there?

On the shell, I don't know why mineral oil wouldn't work.  I don't think it
would float, and it should stay clear, but if it was o-ring sealed it could
always be replaced.  It sounds like a wonderful idea for special, small shells
When it is finished, send a link for a picture!  Would love to see it.
