Hi all
I've collected Strombus alatus and pugilis in several areas, and I've
observed that, though Strombus alatus can exhibit wide variety in coloring
and spines, even within a colony, Strombus pugilis is very consistent both
within a colony and wherever encountered - that is, bright salmon-orange,
with long spines on the spire but few to none on the body whorl, and a high,
flaring lip. I don't think these two are the same species.
