Identifying dead specimens can often be hazardous - i have a motto:
"Never trust a dead shell." Even in specimens that are fairly fresh
dead, colors can be altered, fine sculpture worn down, pitting may alter
the surface, etc. This is not to say that many dead specimens are
unidentifiable, but just a little warning to be extra-cautious assigning
a moniker to them!
