Dear friends,

The comment by David Campbell on the creationism debate is so clear and
enlightening that I have just passed it on to several colleagues.

Outside the US, this whole issue is seen with utmost perplexity, although
it is, unfortunately, slowly finding its way into most countries.  The
sooner we understand that science and religion are two completely
different, non-excluding ways of searching for truth, the better for both
the development of science and the freedom of individuals.

As for the issue of intermediates, the answer is that they do exist, only
that often we don't understand the functioning and development of complex
structures.  And of course, finding the pefect fossil is quite unusual -
but consider what we now know about the evolution of birds and horses.
