Doug,
I could not agree with you more. I don't have the "World" guide, but I have
several of Abbott's Golden Field Guides to Seashells of North America
illustrated by George Sandström (with an umlaut over the 'o'). I buy
everyone I come across to share with young enthusiasts.

I had recently given my daughter a copy of the old standard, 'Golden
Guide Seashells of the World' and I am struck just how nice a book it really
is. It's a book for some reason I can't help but come back to from time to
time even though I have an extensive Conchology library. Looking at the
illustrations in the book I am really struck by how outstanding the colored
drawings really are, probably some of the best illustrations I have ever
seen in a natural history guide book. Frankly the images are possibly
better than my Peterson guide of birds which I think many naturalist hold up
as the gold standard. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the two
illustrators, George and Marita Sandstrom (there should be a little Umlaut
over the 'o'), and if they had done any other natural history work. When I
type up their names I keep getting hits on the 'Golden Guide.'
Thanks.
Doug
