Helmut Nisters wrote, "As Linnaeus described a very large lot of animals, shells, plants, etc. he could not be only one person."
 
Certainly this was true of Sowerby.
 
Another explanation might be that Linnaeus's works were not written by Linnaeus, but by another person having the same name.
