John,
  The sad fact is that there is far too little work done on the soft
tissue.  It would be wonderful to have the morphological, anatomical and
biochemical data available to work out our systematic relationships.
Unfortunately, this is available for very few groups.  Throw in the
paleontological data and now we'll be cooking!
