The hole is a blunt bludgen hole (for lack of better terms) It is about 1.3cm
wide. The shell is about 5cm in length. It was found near pieces of broken
earthenware pottery. The hole is very similar in shape to the ones that were
placed in the Strombus gigas that were used for food (pre columbus so the
hole is round like it was slammed with a rock of some type) However, this
little guy is really pretty small and the hole is pretty big. Given that
info, my Anthro prof thinks it was food, however when I told her that conus
have venom sacks and coud possibly be harmful if not deadly (not spurius
though) so she came up with the idea that they used to venom for sprears. I
doubt that because spear points and arrowheads are not that common on that
island that I know of. What do you think
