Over the last few years, I have collected many times at the village
of Salango, Manabi Province, Ecuador (1  35' S, 80  50' W).  I have
found, so far, about 580 species there.  I say "about" because most
are microspecies collected from shell drift and grit and there are
many questions (is this Turbonilla really different or not?).  I am
certain that many more species will turn up because the total number
of species I have collected in Ecuador is nearing 1100 and many of
these are certainly present at Salango although I havn't found them
there yet.  I havn't finished going through my most recent Salango
material but, so far, I have turned up 10 species that I had not
previously encountered there or, for that matter, in Ecuador.  The
total count at this locality will surely go well over 800 species.
