I can authenticate the doll's head cult information. I've seen the heads
impaled on the bows of boats. Spooky. Here in the lab we have our own cult
-- the Cult of Buzz Lightyear, based on our finding 2 identical Buzzs in 2
different creeks. He (they) lords over the host identification aquarium room.

And this might be the time to announce a major range extension. While
performing a mussel relocation on the Walhonding River in central Ohio last
month, I found a Haliotis rufescens. I think this is a significant find.

>>Regarding Alwyn's letter from the Smithsonian about the Barbie's
>>head. I must let you all in on the secret. There is a sect in the
>>freshwater mussel field that believes that the finding a baby's head
>>(in doll form of course) in a stream bestows upon the bearer
>>powerful mojo that can greatly improve field collecting. I have a
>>fledgeling collection myself. The ones with missing hair and
>>mud-filled eyes are especially prized. I may post them on the web
>>this winter.
