Dear friends and colleagues,

After several years of research I finally have the pleasure to announce the
publication of the following book:
The Molluscs of the Southern Gulf of Thailand by C. Swennen, R. G.
Moolenbeek, N. Ruttanadakul, H. Hobbelink, H. Dekker, & S. Hajisamae.

It is an identification guide and contains the results of 8 years of
collecting in which the occurrence was established of 2 Polyplacophora-,
229 Bivalvia-, 6 Scaphopoda-, 17 Cephalopoda- and 277 Gastropoda-species in
the Southern Gulf of Thailand. Some of the found species were new to
science, others were never presented in colour before, and several species
were not discovered before in Thailand. The fauna in the Gulf of Thailand
shows relationships with that of Malaysia and Indonesia, but some species
were found which up to now were only known from India or Hong Kong.

All species are pictured on 44 plates with colour and SEM photos, and more
than 200 original drawings. There are also 10 colour plates with 28 photos
of field situations, fishery methods, traps, and egg masses of some
gastropods.

The species accounts give scientific, English and local names,
descriptions, abundance, ecological notes, localities where the species
were found and human use. The general text gives information about the
physical characteristics of the area, the habitats, an overview of the
local mollusc fauna, a general introduction in taxonomy and nomenclature,
collecting, storing, and identifying. There is a checklist, an index for
scientific and English vernacular names, a bibliography, an extensive
glossary and a map of the area indicating the locality names used in the
species accounts.

The book is hardbound and in A4-size. It has 211 pages.

Copies will be available in October 2001. The price of the book will be
Hfl. 105.00 [postage excluded]. No discounts are given.

We have asked Mr. A.N. van der Bijl to help us sell and distribute this
book, so for ordering and additional information you should contact him at:
