I'm not aware of any sexual dimorphism in Pteria.  However there are
other species in the Florida/Caribbean area besides Pteria colymbus.  If
you are seeing two distinct forms, perhaps you are seeing two different
species?  Pteria longisquamosa and Pteria vitrea would be possibilities.
