Kev, the problem with sending them is not everyone will get the symbol you
send. Some will get an "i" instead of an "e" with an accent. But the
symbols themselves are usually part of any word processing program and thus
available for e-mail. I use Word and have a cheat sheet with the symbols
and the code for each (such as alt 130 for the accented e). You can find
them if you click on insert and then on symbol - or something similar if you
do not use Word.

Shell related: got my first Pismo Beach clam - Tivela stultorum (Mewe,
1823), I thought someone had mailed me a brick!! It is as heavy as if it
was fossilized. I am quite sure a single specimen will do me fine. Any
more and the shelf would be in jepordy. It was mailed with a rather
delicate cone - which survived intact, demonstrating the strength of some of
these shells.

Oh, for freshwater fans, I got a list today from the state game and fish
with all of the endangered and worrysome or whatever term they use animals
in the state - incluiding mollusks. To my surprise there were quite a few
freshwater mollusks on the list. I thought the Asian clam and the pond
snail were about it for the state! Nothing like being totally ignorant of
what is going on right around you.
