To answer the other parts of the question:
1st edition: 1st printing 1954, 8th printing 1967; I do not know if there were later printings. 541 p., 40 pls., 100 text figures.
Dr. Harasewych, at the Smithsonian, is working on a 3rd edition. However, this is a project that he has taken on in his spare time, in addition to his official work for the museum, and so it is moving slowly.
